We voted to call Pastor Williams on March 7, 1954. He assumed duties the first of June 1, 1954. The church mortage was burned November 27, 1955. Pastor Williams served until May 30, 1966.
In 1962, the church was remodeled with paint inside and out, a new rug, and a new furnace. On Saturday, November 24, 1962, the furnace was started for Sunday. The furnace overheated and the church caught on fire. It was the worse fire in Grinnell in 8 years. On Sunday, December 1, 1962, the Seven Day Advent Church was again rented.
A committee was appointed to see that our church was repaired and remodeled. A new furnace was ordered October 24, 1963. The members of the church put many hours in the restoration of the church.
Many donated their time, labor, and special skills. Included in this was carpenter work, the sand blasting and cleaning of the ceiling, the rewiring of the entire building, the installation of the furnace for the upstairs, plastering, and trucking away of the debris.
Because of all of the donated work, the insurance money, and money donations received, the church building was able to be restored without going into debt. Substantial donations enabled us to have an organ, a piano, new pulpit furniture, and a clock for the auditorium. The first service in the nearly completed auditorium was held June 14, 1964.
On October 13, 1966, Pastor Vernon Smith was called to minister. We voted to build a garage onto the parsonage. We bought 80 new hymnals in July 1971. We voted to pain the basement walls. We bought a bus in January 1973. Ray and Dorothy Spriggs had the bus ministry. Pastor Smith resigned to go into Home Missions.
Pastor Boersma was called on August 16, 1973. A hospitality committee and a guide line was started. The back yard of the parsonage was fenced in during May of 1974. Pastor Boersma served until May 8, 1977.

On February 26, we voted to give the board authority to buy the Weber Farm, called "Sunny Acres". On April 28, 1977, the buildings on Sunny Acres were burned by the fire department. The old church was sold to the Lakeside Church of Christ for $50,000 with possession November 1, 1979.
We voted to call Pastor Reese on September 22, 1977. Pastor Reese served until September 4, 1983.

Shown here at the ground breaking are Pastor Reese and the deacons (Gil Christopher, Ray Spriggs, Howard Thompson, Leroy Calvin, Don Turner, and Steve Barfel). The building's estimated cost would be $360,000.
